Are You Watching Your Spiritual Gates?

Revelation 16:15 (KJV)
"Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame."

I was doing my daily Bible reading when I ran across the word "porter." I did some research and discovered this was derived from a British military term. Porters stood at the entrances of the temple, and their proper business was to admit or assist those entering the gates.

If a superior officer walked past a porter who was standing, he would say, "Peace be unto you!" If he found him asleep, the officer would strike the individual and have the liberty to set his garments on fire. The text of Revelation 16:15 alluded to this custom.

Since we are getting much closer to the return of Jesus, are we spiritually alert or are we asleep? My prayer is, "Lord, please keep me awake at all times and remove the drowsiness from my eyelids."
