Who Is Really Stronger?

John 16:33 (RSV)
"I have said this to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world."

In some of the movies one may see on television or in theaters today, the power of evil is often depicted as being so overwhelming that the power of good may just barely survive. One can especially see this in movies like Rosemary's Baby or The Omen. Satan, in such cases, is often shown to have a greater impact on people than God. Not even the righteous prayer seems to have much of an affect.

The problem with continually seeing such images is that it can become easier and easier to view evil as stronger than good. The power of the Devil as greater than the power of God. While evil in this world may appear so pervasive that it swallows up the good, we need to remember that it is not all-powerful. We must not let the troubles of life or what we see on television or in the movie theaters cause us to give in to defeatism. We must remember that sin and the misery and death it causes will not be the last word. It is very important to realize the sovereign power of God. That ultimately, since He has already overcome Satan and sin, our hope for a better life is sure.

So let us be of good courage when the troubles of life threaten to make us fall, Jesus has already conquered the world and provided a way by which we may share in His victory.
